Weekend Recap By Coach John THompson

This past weekend was the first time Bethel teams appeared in the GPCIHL Regional Championships. After a tough loss to UMSL the D1 team looked to turn the tables and get the win over them in the Semi-Finals. Things were looking good early in the period with Bethel forcing turnovers and keeping UMSL pinned in their own zone. Then any early goal from Joey Harmon put Bethel on top. Unfortunately we would end up in penalty trouble and UMSL tied it up after converting on one of their two 1st period Power Plays. The 2nd period is when Bethel really started to pour it on. Harmon assisted on a goal from Andrew Oosterveld. Then Aidan Board sent a pass eye level to Oosterveld exiting the zone. Oosterveld snatched the puck out of the air then spun off his man to enter the zone and send a shot past the UMSL goalie. Bryce Cross finished the scoring for the period when a shot in front of the UMSL rebounded sky high. Cross caught the puck and threw it to his stick in time to get a shot off putting Bethel up 4-1 to start the 3rd period. A determined UMSL team came out fast the 3rd. Two UMSL skaters were entering the Bethel zone early in the period and the Bethel defense tied up both men not allowing them to touch the puck then at the last second before it reached the Bethel net it bounced as if on its own and ended up in the back of the net.
