For the second consecutive year, senior running back Adrain Smith has been named to the AFCA All-American team. Smith set four Bethel records this past season helping the Wildcats post their best record since football was reinstated in 1993, 11-2.

“I wish my whole team could have been nominated. I couldn’t have done anything without them,” said Smith. “I am very grateful to be chosen and it is a tremendous honor.”

Smith will depart as Bethel’s all-time leading rusher with 5,275 yards in his four year career. Smith ran for 1,635 yards this season breaking his own single season rushing record. Smith also scored the third longest run from scrimmage in Bethel history, a 77-yarder, in the game against rival Lambuth University. Smith shattered his own record for points in a season (138) with 170 this year (28 TDs, 1 two-point conversion). He is now ranked fifth all-time in offensive yards in a season with 1,680.

“It’s a great honor for Adrain and for our program,” said Head Coach Dino Kaklis. “The numbers he has put up in his career are unbelievable. It’s pretty impressive to average over 1,000 yards a year as Adrain did.”

Bethel competes in the NAIA and the Mid-South Conference West Division. The Wildcats finished the year with a number four ranking and made it to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Football Championship Series for the second year in a row.
