McKenzie, Tenn. (08.28.10)-There was several college football teams that began their seasons Saturday but some of them could not have been any more physical than the soccer match between the Bethel Wildcats and Lee University. The Cats won 2-1 but it was a rugged match from the beginning.
Bethel kept their poise and led 2-0 at the half. Goals by Dawyne Smith and Armando Orozco put the Cats in good favor going to the break. A late goal and flurry by Lee made it interesting at the end but the Cats hung on for win number one on the year.
It was a hard luck day for Bethel's Mario Vila Boa. He had four shots on goal with two of those hitting the post. He did have an assist in the contest.
The Wildcats out shot Lee 15-5. Bethel moves to 1-0-1 on the young season.
Bethel Coach Melvin Belong commented. "It was a physical match, but for the most part our young men kept their poise. Everyone comes in and gives us their best shot, and that is a tribute to our program." Belong added, "We will keep working hard and continue to improve."
The Cats will be back in action at Delta State on September 6.
