The Bethel College women’s soccer team split their two road games in action this weekend. On Friday they defeated #RV McKendree College in McKendree, Ill. 4-1 and on Sunday fell 1-0 to Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Mo.
Against McKendree, the Lady Wildcats kept the offensive pressure on and continued to play stifling defense. Bethel was able to get 13 shots on goal while only allowing the Lady Bearcats four. Marika Fukuta had an outstanding afternoon as she scored her first hat trick in a Bethel uniform. Her first goal was in the seventh minute on an assist from Florence Iweta. McKendree’s Ashlee Ritchie tied the score at 1-1 in the 31st minute. But, the tie didn’t last long as Fukuta was again assisted by Iweta in the 42nd minute and a 2-1 lead. Fukuta netted her third goal unassisted in the 65th minute. Just a short three minutes later, DeAnna Flores scored from an assist by Leah O’Grady as Bethel won 4-1. Ugo Opara picked up the win in net making three saves.
The Lady Wildcats weren’t so luck on Sunday as the faced the Lady Lions of Lindenwood University. Both teams seemed to be evenly matched with each having eight shots on goal. But, Lindenwood’s Meghan Kellett scored on a cross by Betsy Lewis. Bethel had opportunities in the second half as they had five shots on goal while limiting Lindenwood to only two.
The Lady Wildcats are now 9-2 on the season and currently ranked #12 in the nation. They will be at home on Saturday, September, 29, 2007 at 1:00pm to play a conference match against Trevecca Nazarene University.
