
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (January 26, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated Cumberland University, 86-55, in Saturday’s TranSouth match-up. The Lady Wildcats snapped a six-game home losing streak and improved to 8-10 (3-4) on the season. The Cumberland Lady Bulldogs fell to 10-9 (2-5).
The Lady Wildcats looked strong from the tip. By the 5:48 mark, Bethel led by 10, 31-21. They continued to lock down on defense and stayed in control on offense. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 50-29 by the half-time break. The Lady Wildcats went 21 of 27 from the field in the first stanza. Bethel connected on 6 of 11 from behind the arc in the half. The Lady Wildcats held Cumberland to 29.7% shooting from the field and 18.2% from three-point land for the half.
The Lady Wildcats pushed forward in the second half. Bethel stretched the lead to 38 points with under 10:00 remaining. The Lady Wildcats connected on 15 of 33 from the field for the half and finished with 36 of 70 for the game. Bethel College shot just 12 free throws in the contest and sank 6 for 50% from the charity stripe. They tossed up 20 from behind the arc and connected on eight for the game. The Lady Wildcats grabbed the win, 86-55.
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats had four players to finish with double digit scoring. Leading the way was Nina Djokovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Djokovic earned her sixth double-double of the season. Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) followed with 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. Erin Meyer (SR/Memphis, TN) finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and one steal. Sophomore Tristan Johnson (Bolivar, TN) went five of eight from three-point land to finish with 15 points. Johnson added five assists, and two rebounds. Jenna Roney (JR/Union City, TN) finished with eight points, five rebounds, and one assist. Senior Lauren Herrera (Dickson, TN) dished out six assists while adding six points and one steal.
