BATESVILLE, Ark. (January 28, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated Lyon College (Ark.), 66-57, Monday night. The Pipers fall to 13-6 (4-4) on the season as the Lady Wildcats improve to 9-10 (4-4).

The Lady Wildcats traveled to Lyon College looking to string two conference wins together. The Pipers made the first basket, but by the 5:43 mark, the score was knotted at 19. By 3:10, Bethel College led by five, 26-21. The Lady Wildcats took the half-time break with the lead, 28-26. Bethel hit eight of 26 shots from the field in the first stanza and connected on four of seven from behind the arc.

The Lady Wildcats continued to look to the post in the second stanza. By 15:08, Bethel was up 37-33. Lyon did not back down as they continued to stay within four or five until the final minutes of play. With 1:23 remaining, the Lady Wildcats stretched their lead to seven, 58-51. Big free throw connects down the stretch, led by seniors Erin Meyer and Lauren Herrera, sealed the win for the Lady Wildcats. Bethel College took the 66-57 win back home to McKenzie.

Bethel College finished the night with 44% shooting from the field going 14 of 24 in the second half and 22 of 50 for the game. The Lady Wildcats sank six of 12 from behind the arc for the game for 50% shooting. From the charity stripe, Bethel hit 16 of 24 for the game.

Sophomores led the way for the Lady Wildcats. Nina Djokovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Tristan Johnson (Bolivar, TN) finished with 17 points each. Djokovic recorded her seventh double-double of the season adding 16 rebounds, one block, and one steal. Johnson added three rebounds and three assists. Erin Meyer (SR/Memphis, TN) finished with 13 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal. Lauren Herrera (SR/Dickson, TN) added nine points, four assists, and one steal. Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) pulled down seven rebounds and added seven points. Teena Carter (FR/Milan, TN) finished with seven rebounds, three points, and one block.

The Lady Wildcats will host Blue Mountain College (Miss.) on Thursday, January 31st at 6PM at Baker Fieldhouse in McKenzie, TN.
