JACKSON, Tenn. (February 2, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were defeated, 79-89, by the #1 Union University Lady Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats fall to 10-11 (5-5) as the Lady Bulldogs improve their perfect season to 21-0 (10-0).


Union jumped out quickly to take the lead. By 10:10, the Lady Wildcats had gained their composure and the lead, 13-12. The Lady Wildcats stretched the lead to five points with just over 7:00 to go in the first half. At the half-time recess, the Lady Wildcats had the lead, 34-32.

The intensity remained high in the second stanza as the Lady Wildcats extended their lead to as many as nine points with 16:36 to play. At 12:16, the Lady Wildcat lead dwindled to only two points. Union overcame Bethel with just under 12:00 remaining, but the Lady Wildcats did not back down. With 4:14 left in the game, the Lady Wildcats had a five-point deficit. Bethel could not get any closer as they took the loss, 79-89.

The Lady Wildcats shot 41% from the field for the game, making 28 of 68 shots. Bethel went to the charity stripe 17 times sinking 15 for 88%. From three-point land, The Lady Wildcats made eight of 22 for 36% shooting.

Tristan Johnson (SO/Bolivar, TN) connected on a four-point play down the stretch and led the effort with 22 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Nina Djokovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) finished with 19 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) added 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal. Senior Erin Meyer (Memphis, TN) rounded out the top scorers with 14 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one block. Lauren Herrera (SR/Dickson, TN) added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will host the Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) RedHawks on Thursday, February 7th at 6PM in Dishman Gymnasium in McKenzie, TN.
