JACKSON, Tenn. (February 9, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were defeated, 70-85, by the #16 Lambuth University Lady Eagles in Saturday’s TranSouth contest. The Lady Wildcats fall to 11-12 (6-6) as the Lady Eagles improve to 17-7 (9-3).
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats trailed from the first few seconds of play as Lambuth scored the first basket. By 16:53, Bethel was in a 10 point deficit, 2-12. The Lady Wildcats cut it to eight at 12:40, but finished the half down thirteen, 31-44. Bethel finished only 18% of shots from behind the arc compared to Lambuth’s 38.5% for the half. The Lady Wildcats connected on 11 of 32 from the field for the half and seven of ten shots from the charity stripe.
The Lady Wildcats picked up the intensity in the second half, but continued to struggle from the field. With just under 5:30 to play, Bethel fell into a 20-point deficit, 58-78. The Lady Wildcats clawed back within 15 to end the game with a loss, 70-85. For the game, Bethel went 26 of 64 from the field for 40% shooting while Lambuth cranked in 50.9% of shots. The Lady Wildcats biggest struggle was from the three-point line as they connected on just four of 18 for 22%. Lambuth made nine of 24 from three-point land for 37.5%. Bethel finished 14 of 22 free throws to Lambuth’s 22 of 32 from the charity stripe. The Lady Wildcats were out-rebounded by Lambuth, 31-37.
Bethel’s Nina Djokovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) had a big game as she scored 23 of her 25 points in the second half. Djokovic added six rebounds to the effort. Tristan Johnson (SO/Bolivar, TN) followed with 14 points, five assists, three rebounds, and one steal. Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and one block. Lauren Herrera (SR/Dickson, TN) added four assists.
