
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (February 7, 2008) – The Bethel College men’s tennis team is having a good week. The NAIA pre-season poll came out with the men ranked number 6 in the nation. Then the Wildcats won their second straight match over a NCAA D-I opponent, dispatching Austin Peay State University 6-1.
All the games were close and there were a couple of comebacks, but the Wildcats cruised to the win. IN doubles action, number one’s Fernando Ristow and Fernando Bochese won 8-5. The number two’s Arnaud Bichon and Thiago Oliveira fell 4-8, but Andres Mejia and Gustavo Hoewell in the number three position won 8-4.
In singles action, number one Ristow came back to win 4-6,6-0,6-0. Bochese had his hands full but won 6-3,7-6 (8-6). Mejia had to pull a come back to win 2-6,6-4,6-3. Bichon cruised 6-2,6-3. Hoewell was defeated 3-6,4-6, and Oliveira won easily 6-1,6-1.
The Wildcats will be on their home courts March 1, 2008 to play a conference match-up with Lyon College (Ark.). First serve is set for 2:00pm.| Bethel at | (2OT) | 1 |
