The Wildcats were looking to be in good shape in the first half. Both teams led the game two times, with Bethel taking the largest lead of the half going up five at 6:01. Bethel held onto the lead until :30 were left in the half and settled on a three point deficit at the break. Bethel was able to pull ten more shots than the Trojans, but only shot 36% for the half. Bethel was in control of the boards grabbing 23 rebounds to TNU’s 13. Shots and rebounds would prove important in the second frame.
Things seemed to turn on the Wildcats in the second half. TNU was able to shoot 36 times compared to Bethel’s 22. The Wildcats shot well 13 of 22 (59%) including 5 of 9 from three point range. But, the Trojans also shot better in the second connecting on 18 of 36 (50%). The rebounding margin Bethel enjoyed in the first half tilted slightly to the Trojans. Bethel got 14 rebounds, but TNU had 16. And a statistic that usually favors Bethel, Trevecca scored 33 bench points to the Wildcats seven.
Derek Demaree scored 15 points and had eight rebounds. Antione Lesesene also had 15 points, four rebounds, a block and a steal. Brain French had nine points, seven boards, two assists and two steals. LeRoy Bell had nine points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
The Wildcats are 12-13 (3-12) on the season. They will be on the road on Saturday, February 16, 2008 for a 4:00pm tip off against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions. They will return to the Dishman Gymnasium on Thursday, February 21, 2008 for a 7:00pm start against the Crichton College Comets.
