It was back and forth in the first half. Bethel was making their shots count, shooting 50% from the field and 57% from behind the arc. Freed wasn’t shooting as well, but the Lions did from three point range shooting 6 of 10 (60%). Neither team got many chances at the foul line and after the first, Bethel trailed 33-36.
But, that’s where the wheels fell off for the ‘Cats. The Lions went on a 10-0 run and Bethel quickly found themselves down 16 points at 14:11. Bethel’s shooting fell to 30%; only 7 of 23 in the second. They also failed to hit one three pointer going 0 for 6. On the other side, the Lions shot 61% from the floor in the second and continued to build on their lead. Late in the game, the Lions went on a 9-0 run to stretch their lead to 29 and shortly after went up by 30 their largest lead of the game.
One of the problems for the Wildcats was keeping the ball as they turned the ball over 30 times in the game compared to Freed’s 16. Part of Freed’s success getting turnovers is that recorded 21 steals. The Lions were also efficient at dishing the ball off as they had 22 assists to Bethel’s eight.
Antione Lessesene had 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Brian French had 12 points, four boards and one steal. LeRoy Bell added nine points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal all while fighting off the flu.
The Wildcats are 12-14 (3-13) on the season. They will be in action on Thursday, February 21, 2008 for a 7:00pm tip off with Crichton College. There will not be a woman’s game preceding the men’s game. Crichton only fields a men’s team.| University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at | 11 |
