MCKENZIE, Tenn. (February 21, 2008) – The Wildcats challenged the Crichton College Comets to the wire, but could not pull out the win. Bethel held the lead after a half of play, but Crichton went up by as many as 10 with 4:19 left as Bethel got to within three with ten seconds remaining. The Comets’ Sylvania Watkins hit two free throws to seal the win with nine seconds left, 64-69.

Crichton is receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, but the Wildcats gave them all they could handle in the first half. Early foul trouble forced some players into the action and they shined. Hrvoje Devcic finished the first half with ten points in a little over eight minutes, hitting 3 of 4 from behind the arc. Skinfolarin Sessi played his best seven plus minutes of the year, dropping in eight points. The Wildcats hit 6 of 13 from three-point range while the Comets were 3 of 7. What is all added up to is a 32-26 Wildcat halftime lead.

The Wildcats shooting cooled as they went 11 for 31 in the second. The Comets improved shooting 15 of 30 (50%) and got to the foul line 26 times hitting 13. Crichton also out-rebounded the ‘Cats 30-10 in the second. Most of that can be attributed to Bethel putting in a shooting line-up in the last quarter of the game. Clint Blackburn and Derek Demaree both hit threes in the last 1:07 to get the score to within three, but the Comets made their free throws and held off the ‘Cats.

Blackburn finished with 17 points to lead the Wildcats offensively. Antione Lesesene had 11 points. Devcic ended with 10 points, as did Sessi. Demaree grabbed 10 boards.

The Wildcats are 12-15 (3-14) on the season. They will be in action on Saturday, February 23, 2008 for a 41:00pm tip off with Lyon College. It will be Senior Day before the game as time will be taken to honor this year’s departing seniors.
