
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (February 23, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were defeated by Lyon College (Ark.) in overtime, 72-74. The Lady Wildcats fall to 12-15 (7-9) as Lyon improves to 18-10 (8-8) on the season.
The Lady Wildcats came out chilly from the field but with great effort. By 14:50, the score was knotted at six points. With 6:00 to go in the half, the Lady Wildcats saw a three-point deficit. Bethel gained the lead with just over 4:00 remaining. The scored was tied at the half-time recess, 28-28.
Shooting woes continued into the second stanza for the Bethel squad. The Lady Wildcats trailed by one, 38-39, at 14:27. With just under eight minutes to play, the Lady Wildcats were down 11, 40-51. Bethel did not back down and by the 4:00 mark, they had trimmed the margin to just three points, 49-52. With less then :25 to go, Bethel connected on two three-pointers to send the game into extra minutes and set the score at 62 at the end of regulation.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead early in overtime at 63-62 with 4:39 on the clock, but could not keep it. Lyon countered by 4:20, to go up, 63-64. The Lady Wildcats trailed the rest of the extended minutes and took the loss, 72-74.
For the game the Bethel College Lady Wildcats allowed Lyon College no second chance buckets and only two offensive rebounds. The Lady Wildcats connected on just 22 of 77 shots from the field for 31% shooting. From behind the arc, Bethel made six of 23 for 26%. The Lady Wildcats finished 66.7% of shots from the charity stripe connecting on 18 of 27.
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by sophomore Tristan Johnson (Bolivar, TN) with 21 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Nina Djokovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) added 13 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Teena Carter (FR/Milan, TN) finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds, four steals, and one assist. Anna Trull (FR/McKenzie, TN) had 11 points, four rebounds, and one steal. Erin Meyer (SR/Memphis, TN) and Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) pulled down 13 rebounds each. Meyer also added eight points, two assists, one block, and one steal. Senior Lauren Herrera (Dickson, TN) added seven assists.
