LEBANON, Tenn. (February 28, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated the Cumberland University Lady Bulldogs, 72-61, in Thursday night’s TranSouth contest. The Lady Wildcats improve to 13-15 (8-9) on the season as Cumberland falls to 13-16 (5-12).
The Lady Wildcats found themselves down early in the contest but by 11:36, they had taken a one-point lead, 13-12. Bethel continued to build on that lead into the next five minutes as they held Cumberland to just two points. The Lady Wildcats took the lead into the half-time break, 33-21.
The Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 42-29 with 16:25 to play. By 12:12, Bethel boasted a 20-point lead, 55-35. Cumberland continued to stay around and made a push in the final minutes of play. The Lady Wildcats held on to take the win, 72-61.
Bethel connected on six of 12 three-point shots in the first half and finished the game shooting 40% from behind the arc, eight of 20. The Lady Wildcats shot 38% from the field for the game and finished 16 of 24 shots from the charity stripe in the contest. Bethel out-rebounded Cumberland 48-39 and picked up 16 points from the Lady Bulldogs’ 12 turnovers.
Tristan Johnson (SO/Bolivar, TN) led the way for the Lady Wildcats with 15 points, three assists, and one rebound. Senior Erin Meyer (Memphis, TN) went four of six from the field including three of three from three-point land and finished with 13 points. Meyer added six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Anna Trull (FR/McKenzie, TN) followed with 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Jelena Budimir (JR/Belgrade, Serbia) added 10 points and six rebounds. Nina Djokovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) had a solid game with nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Lauren Herrera (SR/Dickson, TN) finished with five assists, three points, one block, and one steal.
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will travel to Blue Mountain, MS on Saturday, March 1st, to take on the Blue Mountain College Lady Toppers at 2PM.
