MCKENZIE, Tenn. (March 1, 2008) – Bethel College dominated the visiting Scots and Pipers from Lyon College in the tennis season’s conference opener. Both the men’s and women’s teams won 9-0.

The 21st ranked lady Wildcats, fresh off their win over NCAA D-I Austin Peay State University took little time in silencing the Pipers. Number one doubles Julian Costa and Marcela Vita Santos won 8-1; number two doubles Dana Ledbetter and Margot Creaseman cruised 8-0; Bethel claimed the third doubles match by default. In singles action, number one Marta Carolina Bello 6-0, 6-0; number two Santos 6-0, 6-0; number three Ledbetter 6-0, 6-0; Creaseman 6-0, 6-0. Bethel claimed the final two singles matches by default.
The men, ranked number 9 in the latest NAIA poll, also cruised to their win with wins in doubles, Andres Mejia and Gustavo Hoewell 8-4; Thiago Olivera and Augusto Velez 8-1; The Wildcats took the third doubles match by default. In singles, Mejia 6-0, 6-0; Hoewell 6-0, 6-0; Olivera 6-1, 6-1; Velez 6-0, 6-0; Fernando Bocchese 6-0, 6-0; with Bethel getting the sixth match by default.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the year and the men went to 3-0. The men will host the NCAA D-II University of North Alabama Lions on Sunday at Wildcats Courts beginning at 1:00pm. Then both the women and the men will be heading to Florida for the school’s observance of Spring Break and will be at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on March, 4, 2008 beginning at 3:30 pm CST. Then on March 5, 2008 the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats will play Webber International University starting at 1:00 pm CST.
