MCKENZIE, TENN. (March 9, 2008) – Mother Nature factored in the weekend conference series against Lyon College, shortening the three-game series to a double header on Sunday. The Wildcats claimed the first game in a pitcher’s duel 2-1, and could not hold on in the second game after leading 6-0, falling 8-9.
 

Runs were hard to come by in game dominated by pitching. Bethel starter Blake Willis went five strong innings allowing only two hits and one run. Jonathan Keck came in a pitched the last two innings allowing only one hit. Bethel got on the board in the top of the first when Heath Sharp blasted a homer. The Scots would answer in the fifth to tie the score. Then in the top of the seventh, Bethel manufactured a go ahead run and Keck nailed down the win for the Wildcats.

Sharp was 1 for 4 with a homer, Seth Stanfil was 1 for 3 with a RBI, Scott Dean was 2 for 3 and Keck went 1 for 3.

Bethel started game two hot, scoring six runs in the first three frames. Lyon’s coach didn’t like what he saw and pulled every position player leaving only his pitcher and catcher in the top of the fourth. The players off the bench responded by scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 6-6. The Scots plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-6 lead. Bethel made a game of it scoring two times in the top of the seventh, falling one run short.

Sharp was 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI. Stanfil was 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI; Keck was 1 for 4 with homer; Andrew Maddox was 3 for 4 with a run scored; and Craig Massey was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Starter Chris Crenshaw went 3.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits. David Rodriguez went 1.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits and Rhett Hughes went 1.0 inning giving up three runs on three hits.

Bethel is now 15-5 (2-3) on the season. The Wildcats will be on the road Monday, March 10, 2008 to play the University of North Alabama in Florence at 3:00pm. They will be at home this coming weekend as they host rival Union University. Game time on Friday, March 14, 2008 is 2:00pm. First pitch of the double header on Saturday, March 15 will be at 1:00pm.
