The ‘Cats got the season underway losing two tough exhibition games against NCAA D-I opponents. Bethel first fell to The University of Tennessee at Martin 63-96 and then to Murray State University 49-82. But, the Wildcats got the season off to a good start at the Rotary Club Classic defeated Reinhardt College (Ga.) 59-57 and Union College (Ky.) 75-69. They followed that up by splitting their two games at the Comfort Inn Classic in Jackson, Tenn.; first losing to Bluefield College (Va.) 65-98 and winning against Covenant College (Ga.) 76-62. The Wildcats would then go on to win six straight before the Christmas break. At home in the Roy N. Baker Classic, Bethel defeated Central Baptist College (Ark.) 75-60 and Southeastern Bible College (Ala.) 91-58. They took a short road trip to St. Louis, Mo. and won at St. Louis College of Pharmacy 83-54 and Concordia Seminary – St. Louis 78-60. They close out the first half of the season at home in the McDonald’s Classic defeating Rust College 97-81 and Missouri Baptist College 73-70.
Bethel took a 9-1 record to start conference play, but opened against three ranked teams and dropped their first eight conference match-ups. Bethel would lose at home against Union University 68-90, on the road at Martin Methodist 73-92, back at home against Trevecca Nazarene University 74-83, at Mid-Continent University 76-83, hosting Lambuth University 69-98, Freed-Hardeman University 75-80, at Crichton College 81-94 and at home against Cumberland University 74-82. Bethel picked up their first conference win on the road at Lyon College 70-61 and they won at home over Blue Mountain College 101-76.
The second time through the conference schedule did not prove to be any easier for the Wildcats. They lost at Union University 79-86, but provided fans at the Dishman Gymnasium some excitement as they took Martin Methodist to overtime before losing 85-92. They fell on the road at Lambuth University 65-92 before winning at home over Mid-Continent University 80-65. Bethel would drop their next five at Trevecca 59-71, at Freed-Hardeman 57-85, at home to Crichton 64-69, at home in a nail biter to Lyon 58-59 and at Cumberland 63-69. Bethel would rebound on the road at Blue Mountain to close out the regular season 86-66.
The Wildcats finished tenth in the league and drew the seventh seed Freed-Hardeman on the road for the First Round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament losing 72-91.
Newcomer Antione Lesesene was named to the Second Team All-TranSouth Conference. Lesesene was fifth in the conference in scoring with 16.04/points per game. He ranked fourth in field goal percentage at 54% and fifth in total rebounds with 177 or 7.38/per game. He scored a season high 33 points against Crichton College and collected 16 rebounds against Lyon College.
Bethel also had six named TranSouth All-Scholars Clint Blackburn, Hrovje Devcic, Daniel Doyle, Derek Demaree, Brian French, and Otakar Schober. To receive TranSouth Scholar-Athlete honors, the student-athlete must maintain a 3.0 or above cumulative grade point average and be of sophomore status or above.| Bethel vs | 2 |
