MCKENZIE, Tenn. (March 17, 2008) – The ninth ranked Bethel College men’s tennis team took care of business at home defeating the fifteenth ranked Benedictine College Ravens from Atchison, KS 9-0.
Bethel began the sweep as number one doubles Fernando Bocchese and Fernando Ristow won 8-4; number two position doubles Gustavo Hoewell and Augusto Velez won 9-7 and number threes Andres Mejia and Thiago Oliveira won 8-1.
In singles, number one Fernando Ristow cruised 6-2, 6-2; number two Fernando Bocchese battled in the first set, but easily took the second 7-5, 6-2; Andres Mejia broke serve and won 64-, 6-4; Arnaud Bichon dropped the second set but won the tie-break 7-6, 1-6, 10-5; Gustavo Hoewell pulled out the first set and dominated the second 7-5, 6-0; and Thiago Oliveira easily won 6-1, 6-1.
The men’s team improved to 5-0 on the season and ranked #9 in the nation. They will host conference rival Cumberland University on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 2:30pm. They also host Lambuth University on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 2:00pm.
