
The Wildcats utilized the long ball in game, hitting three homers in the win. Lambuth scored a run in the first, but the ‘Cats plated three in the second for a 3-1 lead. Lambuth put a run up in the second and the third to tie the game 3-3. But, the Wildcats exploded for seven runs in the top half of the fourth. Scott Dean led off with a single, followed by Johnathan Deberry’s single. Then on a 1-0 count Heath Sharp launched a long three run homer and the Wildcats were able to put four more on the board for a 10-3 lead. In the top of the fifth with two on, Will Cripps hit his second career homer and his second of the week, a three run shot over right center for a 13-4 lead. Jim Evans would add a solo shot in the top of the seventh and Bethel would add two more in the ninth to claim the 16-7 win. Starter David Rodriguez improved to 4-1 on the season going 5-1 innings allowing six runs, four earned. Blake Talbott went 0.2 and Rhett Hughes threw the final three innings striking out five and walking one. Cripps went 4 for 4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Evans went 2 for 4 with a run scored, two walks and thee RBI. Deberry was 2 for 5 with two walks, a run scored and three RBI. Sharp was 2 for 6 with a run scored and three RBI. Andrew Maddox was 2 for 4 with three runs scored.
As good as things went on Friday, it didn’t go according to plan on Saturday. Blake Willis suffered his first loss of the season and is now 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats also committed three errors in the game, two errors led to two of the Eagle’s runs. Bethel only managed six hits in game one and scored two runs in the fifth to make Lambuth’s lead 6-2. The Eagles scored three times, two earned off Jonathan Keck who pitched the final three innings in relief. Seth Stanfil picked up half of the Wildcats’ hits going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Cripps remained hot at the plate going 2 for 3. Keck was 1 for 4 with two RBI.
Unfortunately, the second game on Saturday didn’t go as well either. Bethel committed five errors in the loss, with three errors leading to five unearned runs. Starter Chris Crenshaw went 3.2 innings as Lambuth scored three runs all unearned. Hughes threw two innings as five runs scored, only two earned. Brian Nellett closed out the game. Craig Massey was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. Evans was 1 for 3 with a RBI. Stanfil was 2 for 4.
Bethel is 18-9 (4-6) on the year. They will be hosting Harris-Stowe College from St. Louis on Monday, March 24, 2008 for a double header beginning at 1:00pm. Then on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 2:00pm they will resume conference action as they host #6 Trevecca Nazarene University.
