MCKENZIE, Tenn. (March 25, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated Oakland City University (Ind.) 5-4 in game one and 5-3 in game two. The Lady Wildcats improve to 3-11 with the non-conference win.

The Lady Wildcats needed an extra inning to seal the deal in game one. Bethel held Oakland City scoreless in the first. Whitney Taylor (JR/Stanton, TN) scored the first run for the Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the first as Brittany Edmonds (FR/Benton, KY) earned one of her two RBI in the game. Neither team scored in the next two innings. Oakland City picked up a run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Wildcats held Oakland City in the sixth but failed to score. Oakland City did not score in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, with Lindsey Davis (FR/Lexington, TN) on second and Theresa Crawley (SR/Callahan, FL) on first, Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL) singled. Davis knotted the score on a wild throw from center by Oakland’s Brown. In the eighth, Oakland’s Jorden smacked a two-run homer as they took the 4-2 lead. Bethel took advantage of the last bat opportunity. Taylor scored her second run as Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN) reached first on a wild throw from Oakland’s Ferguson. Edmunds doubled to center and batted Cooper in to tie the score at four with Thompson in scoring position. Crawley knocked a double to deep right-center allowing Thompson to score the winning run. Blair Johnson (JR/Covington, TN) recorded the win. Edmonds had two hits and two RBI. Crawley finished with two hits, both doubles. Taylor had two runs and two steals.

In game two, neither team scored in the first. The Lady Wildcats allowed Oakland City two runs in the second. Bethel added two runs to the board in the second. Brandi Funburg hit a double up the middle allowing Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN) to score. Samantha Mullins (SO/Dyer, TN) knocked a single to right as Theresa Crawley scored to tie the game. Oakland City scored one run in the fourth without an answer by Bethel. The Lady Wildcats held Oakland City in the fifth. Bethel picked up three big runs in the fifth. Emily Thompson took a big swing as she doubled to left and advanced Whitney Taylor and Paige Cooper home. Kee sent one to right field allowing Thompson to score. Neither team scored in the sixth. The Lady Wildcats held Oakland City in the top of the seventh to set the score at 5-3. Paige Cooper took the win. Thompson finished the game with three hits and two RBI. Whitney Taylor added two hits.

The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will travel to Mayfield, KY to take on Mid-Continent University on Thursday, March 27th for a double-header starting at 1PM.
