Starter Jon Patterson was perfect through four innings of work facing the minimum twelve batters and striking out six. Patterson improved to 4-0 on the season. Bethel recorded 20 runs in three at-bats and only ten hits. The Wildcats took advantage of 11 walks and three hit batters to plate the runs. Bethel got a two-run homer from Craig Massey his third of the year. Andrew Maddox also hit a solo homer, his fifth of the season. Maddox was a single shy of hitting for the cycle as he hit a triple in the first and a double in the second to go with his homer. Maddox was the RBI leader of game one with five, Massey had four, Jay Lowery had two. Fourteen different Wildcats touched home plate.
Game two wasn't much better for the visiting Bulldogs. The Wildcats scored 15 times on ten hits to put an early stop on the game in the fifth. Starter Ron Plemons threw four innings allowing only two hits and striking out four to pick up his second win of the year (2-0). Rhett Hughes pitched the final inning striking out two. The Bulldogs surrendered seven walks and four hit batters and the Wildcats took advantage. Jonathan Deberry was 1 for 1 with a walk, HBP, three runs scored and three RBI. Massey was 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI. Will Cripps was 1 for 2 with two RBI. Zach Tippett was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Brandon McCormick was 0 for 0 (two walks and one HBP) but scored three runs.
The Wildcats improve to 22-10 (4-7) on the season. They will be on the road Friday, April, 4, 2008 to play Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn. at 6:00pm. Then the Wildcats will play a double header on Saturday, April 5, with first pitch set for 12:00pm.
