MCKENZIE, Tenn. (April 2, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were defeated by Lyon College (Ark.) in extra innings in the first game, 3-4, then picked up a win in the second game, 4-3, to improve to 5-13 (3-9) on the season. Lyon College is now 8-23 (7-11) on the season.

The first game was stretched into eight innings. Neither team found home in innings one and two. The Lady Wildcats held Lyon in the third. Whitney Taylor (JR/Stanton, TN) coasted home in the bottom of the third as Emily Thompson (FR/Lexington, TN) picked up an RBI. The Lady Wildcats held Lyon again in the fourth and fifth innings, without reaching home themselves in either inning. Bethel allowed Lyon one run in the sixth and another run in the seventh. With Lyon in the lead by one, the Lady Wildcats' Gabby Hubble (SO/Milan, TN) scored the tying run as Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL) singled to left picking up an RBI. Lyon scored two runs in the extra inning. Bethel's Thompson smacked a homerun to left-center on a 0-0 count. The Lady Wildcats set the score at 3-4 and that is where it stayed as Blair Johnson (JR/Covington, TN) recorded the loss. Taylor, Thompson, Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN), and Funburg had two hits each. Thompson also added two RBI and a homerun.

In game two, Lyon had the bats swinging, scoring three runs in the opening inning. The Lady Wildcats answered with one in the bottom of the inning when Emily Thompson singled allowing Whitney Taylor to score. Neither team scored in the second. The Lady Wildcats added another run to the scoreboard when Brandi Funburg knocked a single and picked up an RBI as Lindsey Davis (FR/Lexington, TN) scored. Bethel held Lyon in the fourth. The Lady Wildcats scored the tying run in the bottom of the fourth. Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN) rounded third and reached home on a wild throw by Lyon's Canon. The fifth and sixth innings remained scoreless. Bethel held Lyon in the top of the seventh and went into the bottom of the seventh with the score tied, 3-3. Hubble advanced Davis to third on sacrifice bunt as Funburg moved to second base. Samantha Mullins (SO/Dyer, TN) smacked a single to second allowing Davis to score the winning run. Paige Cooper recorded the 4-3 win. The Lady Wildcats finished the game with 14 hits. Funburg swung big for three hits and one RBI. Taylor, Kee, and Davis, added two hits each.
