
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (April 7, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were defeated by Mid-Continent University (Ky.) in game one, 6-10. The Lady Wildcats got the win in game two, 3-0. Mid-Continent is 9-27 (7-19) on the season as Bethel improves to 6-16 (4-12).
The Lady Wildcats held the Lady Cougars in the first three innings of game one while scoring three runs. Bethel allowed Mid-Continent 10 fourth inning runs and answered with just one in the inning. The Lady Wildcats stopped Mid-Continent in the final three innings, but could not overcome the fourth inning miscues. Blair Johnson (JR/Covington, TN) recorded the 6-10 loss. Whitney Taylor (JR/Stanton, TN) had a big game at bat connecting on four of five and adding one run. Pitcher Blair Johnson had four hits from four at bats, scored one run, and picked up one RBI. Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL) went three of four at bat, had two RBI, and scored one run. Brittany Edmonds (FR/Benton, KY) had three RBI as she went two of four at bat. Emily Thompson (FR/Lexington, TN) added two runs.
The Lady Wildcats put the defense on in game two with a shut-out performance. The Lady Wildcats added their first two runs in the first inning. Bethel scored again in the fourth when Laurie Anna Cooley (FR/Covington, TN) singled to left allowing Theresa Crawley (SR/Callahan, FL) to score. The Lady Wildcats stopped Mid-Continent's rally in the top of the seventh. With two outs on the board, Crawley fielded a pop-out to center and zipped the ball to Brandi Funburg on third as Mid-Continent's Jamie Speake advanced to third. Funburg tagged Speake out and ended the game. Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN) allowed only three hits in the game and recorded the win, 3-0. Edmonds went two of three and picked up one run. Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN) connected on two of three at bat. Crawley went one of three, which was a double, and added one run.
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will host Union University on Thursday, April 10th for a twin bill starting at 2PM on Lady Wildcat Field in McKenzie, TN.
