MCKENZIE, Tenn. (April 10, 2008)-The Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated TranSouth opponent Union University (Tenn.) in game one, 8-3 and were defeated in game two, 2-6. The Lady Wildcats improve to 7-17 (5-13) as Union continues at 21-10 (12-6) on the season.

The Lady Wildcats took a 3-1 lead into the second inning. Bethel held Union in the next four innings and added four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Wildcats scored one in the sixth and allowed the Lady Bulldogs to score two in the seventh. The Lady Wildcats set the score at 8-3 as Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN) recorded the win. Emily Thompson (FR/Lexington, TN) had a big game going three of four from the plate while adding two runs. Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL) went two for two at bat, picked up a steal, and added a run. Blair Johnson (JR/Covington, TN) connected for two hits from four at bats, scored one run, and picked up one RBI. Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN) hit a double going two of four from the plate and finished with two RBI. Whitney Taylor (JR/Stanton, TN) smacked two hits from four tries, scored one run, and added one RBI. Kasey Winsett (FR/Paris, TN) picked up two RBI from one hit. Pitcher Paige Cooper allowed Union only five hits and threw five strike-outs in the win. As a team, the Lady Wildcats went 13 of 33 from the plate.

The Lady Wildcats scored the first run of game two and held Union in the second inning to take the lead into the third inning. Bethel allowed Union one run in the third. Union added two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh as Bethel added only one more run, in the bottom of the fifth, to set the score at 2-6. Bethel pitcher Blair Johnson recorded the loss. Johnson went two for three from the plate, including a double, and added one RBI. Whitney Taylor scored one run and connected on one of three at bat.
