MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel men's tennis team continued its perfect season by defeating the Cumberland University Bulldogs 7-2. With the win, the #8 ranked Wildcats claimed the TranSouth Conference regular season championship. The Wildcats are 11-0 on the year.
Bethel took two of three in doubles action, as number one's Fernando Bucchese and Thiago Oliveira lost a close match 8-9. But, the number two's and three's both picked up wins easily. Gustavo Hoewell and Augusta Velez won 8-3 and Fernando Ristow and Andres Mejia won 8-1.
Then the Wildcats dominated in singles action capturing all but one match. Number one Bucchese won 6-3, 6-3; Ristow cruised 6-1, 6-2; Mejia had to come back for his win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1; Arnaud Bichon lost a tough match 4-6, 7-6, 7-10; Hoewell won easily 6-0, 6-4; and Oliveira closed out the singles action with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Bethel will now prepare for the TranSouth Conference Tournament beginning Thursday, April 18-19 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
