MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel women's tennis team fought the elements and a talented team from Cumberland University just falling short 4-5. The Lady Wildcats lost two of the three doubles matches and could not make up the difference in singles. The Lady Wildcats are ranked #11 in the nation, are 8-2 (3-1) and are the 2008 TranSouth Conference regular season runner-up.
 

Bethel got themselves behind right off the bat by dropping two of the three doubles matches. Number one's Marta Carolina Bello and Karen Martinez lost 3-8; Juliana Costa and Marcela Vita R. Santos cruised 1-8; and Margot Creaseman and Dana Ledbetter fell 3-8.

In singles action Costa played the match of the afternoon. She had to come back for the win, but it was a thrilling match, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4; Bello lost 3-6, 6-4; Martinez blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0; Santos saw a little trouble closing her match out, but won 6-3, 7-5; Creaseman lost but not without a fight 1-6, 5-7; and Ledbetter fell 3-6, 2-6.

Bethel will now prepare for the TranSouth Conference Tournament beginning Thursday, April 18-19 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
