NASHVILLE,
Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats tennis team capped off their best
season on record with a convincing TranSouth Conference Tournament
Championship. Bethel did not drop a game
in the Tournament to capture the title. The
team is undefeated on the season with a 13-0 record and is ranked #7 in the
nation.
Bethel
swept all six of the All-Conference First Team singles positions:#1Fernando
Bucchese, #2 Fernando Ristow, #3 Andres Mejia, #4 Arnaud Bichon, #5 Gustavo
Hoewell and #6 Thiago Oliveria. First
Team doubles for Bethel was #2 Gustavo Hoewell and Augusto Velez. Bethel also claimed Second Team doubles, #3
Andres Mejia and Fernando Ristow.
Receiving
top awards were Bocchese who was named TranSouth Conference Men's Tennis Player
of the Year. Bocchese is 12-0 in singles
competition this season. And Head Coach
Gustavo Andrade was awarded with TranSouth Conference Men's Coach of the Year.
Bethel started
their march to the championship with a 5-0 win over Lambuth University. Bethel was paired against Cumberland
University in the Championship match.
The prior Saturday, the Wildcats defeated CU 7-2. The Wildcats looked to put an exclamation point
on the Championship as they blanked Cumberland 5-0.
With
the Tournament win, the Wildcats are the 2008 TranSouth Conference regular season
and tournament champion.
The Wildcats will
return to Nashville and Vanderbilt University to play in the NAIA Regional
Tournament on Thursday, April 24, 2008.
