JACKSON, Tenn. (April 30, 2008)-The #8 seed Bethel College Lady Wildcats defeated #9 seed Lambuth University, 4-0 in the first game of the TranSouth Conference Tournament, today on Fesmire Field on the campus of Union University. The Lady Wildcats will meet #1 seed Trevecca Nazarene University today at 5PM. Bethel improves to 16-28 on the season.
The Lady Wildcats shut-out the Lambuth Lady Eagles to take game one of the TranSouth Conference tournament. Bethel added three runs to the board in the fourth inning. Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL) smacked a single to left allowing Brittany Edmonds (FR/Benton, KY) and Gabby Hubble (SO/Milan, TN) to score. Funburg went on to score on a misplay by Lambuth's Molly Wright. The Lady Wildcats picked up another run in the fifth when Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN) bunted to allow Emily Thompson (FR/Lexington, TN) to score. Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN) recorded the 4-0 win. Brandi Funburg went one for two from the plate picking up two RBI and scoring one run. Brittany Edmunds was two for three and added one run. Emily Thompson had two hits out of three tries and added one run to the board.
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will take on #1 seed Trevecca Nazarene University today at 5PM. The winner will advance to game 11 on Thursday, May 1st at 5PM and play the winner of game three between #4 seed Union University and #5 seed Lyon College. The loser will move to the loser bracket for game 9 on Thursday, May 1st at 1PM and will play the winner of game seven between #9 seed Lambuth University and #10 seed Mid-Continent University.
