NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 30, 2008)-The TranSouth Athletic Conference recently released the list of student-athletes honored as TranSouth Scholar-Athletes for the 2008 softball season. Bethel College had eight Lady Wildcats recognized for this great honor. Three Lady Wildcats were named to the TranSouth All-Conference second-team. These student-athletes were announced on Wednesday during a ceremony held at the TranSouth Conference tournament in Jackson, TN.
Those named TranSouth Scholar-Athletes are: Paige Cooper (SR/Millington, TN); Theresa Crawley (SR/Callahan, FL); Brandi Funburg (SR/Harrisburg, IL); Hannah Kee (SR/Bruceton, TN); Blair Johnson (JR/Covington, TN); Whitney Taylor (JR/Stanton, TN); Gabby Hubble (SO/Milan, TN); and Samantha Mullins (SO/Dyer, TN). To receive TranSouth Scholar-Athlete honors, the student-athlete must maintain a 3.0 or above cumulative grade point average and be of sophomore status or above.
Theresa Crawley (CF/SR/Callahan, FL), Brandi Funburg (3B/SR/Harrisburg, IL), and Emily Thompson (SS/FR/Lexington, TN) were named All-Conference second-team. Emily Thompson led the Lady Wildcats in hits with 38 and had an average of 0.325 on the season. Thompson went 38 for 117, and had five doubles, three homeruns, 21 runs, and 18 RBI. Brandi Funburg was Bethel's leader in stolen bases with 10 total and an average of 0.25 for the 2008 season. Funburg connected on 31 of 106 for 0.292 at the plate. She finished with three doubles, nine runs, and 10 RBI. Theresa Crawley had 24 hits and 84 at bats for an average of 0.293. She added six doubles, six RBI, and 12 runs this season.
