MCKENZIE, Tenn. (May 7, 2008) – Bethel College tight end, Buck Reed, holds two very prestigious distinctions. He was the first ever Wildcat to attended an NFL Camp and now is the first to sign an NFL contract. Reed attended the Detroit Lions' Rookie Camp from May 2-5, 2008 at the Detroit Lions training facility located just west of Detroit between Allen Park and Dearborn. Reed impressed the coaches enough to be offered a contract and an invitation back. Reed stated he does not yet know the dates when he will be returning.

"I got to see what's it like on the next level; to play with players I've seen on tv. Coach Rod Marinelli ran it like boot camp, but treated us all like men and with respect," said Reed.

"It's a great opportunity for Buck," said Bethel Head Coach Dino Kaklis. "I'm excited for him. He has worked hard and deserves it. Buck is a great representative of our team, school and community."

Reed said that he left camp a little sore, but wouldn't take anything in return for the experience he had. "All the guys were pretty cool and everyone was cheering each other on. I actually thought I might get left behind, but I was able to keep up and even beat some of the guys off the ball. It wasn't much different that what I was accustomed to," added Reed.

Although Reed doesn't know the date he has to report back, if he continues on he will have an interesting first game to be a part of. The Detroit Lions are set to host the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants for a pre-season game on Thursday, August 7, 2008.
