It is not often we share our thoughts about subjects other than Bethel University Athletics on this site. In this case however we feel compelled and responsible to inform you how saddened the athletic department is about the passing of Amiyah Mahkina Watkins, the infant daughter of Bethel Judo coaches Ray and Stephanie Watkins.

Ray and Stephanie are two of the most positive and profound witnesses of their Christian faith we have ever met. They are a ray of sunshine to all at Bethel University and the surrounding area.

Amiyah Mahkina went to be with her Lord Saturday night at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Even though she was just several weeks old all of us can gather strength and faith in her battle to live. She, along with her parents and family have been and continue to be people we can all learn from and help strengthen our faith and goodwill toward our fellow man.

The entire University and the Bethel Athletic department send our love and support to the Watkins family. May God bless them and keep them.
