Campbellsville, Ky. - Bethel University's Aqua Cats swam in their season opener against both Campbellsville University and St. Catharine College on Saturday in a 13-event meet.

"This meet was a good introduction to collegiate swimming for our three freshmen athletes. All three schools have small teams and the atmosphere was relaxed," said Assistant Coach Kim Smith. Highlights from the meet included a first place finish by freshman, Tyler Kupersmith, in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:23.51, as well as a strong showing in the 200-meter freestyle relay by Jennifer Bryan, Bethany DeBok, Laura Hepple, and Kayci Rezac. "Our women's freestyle relay missed the national qualifying mark by: 01.75 seconds. Our women have the ability to make it to NAIA nationals this year."

"With this meet behind us, we now know where we stand and what we need to work on. We have goals in place and plan to come back even stronger next week."

Bethel had two first-place finishes by juniors, Kayci Rezac and Alec Meddings, as well as seven 2nd-place finishes, and six 3rd-place finishes.
