MCKENZIE, Tenn. (July 22, 2008) - The Bethel College Lady Wildcat basketball program has added Joanna Ortiz, a 5'8 point guard is originally from Chicago, Ill. to the 2008-09 class. Ortiz an in-coming junior has played the past two seasons at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kan.
Ortiz averaged 10.9/ppg last season and she played in all of Allen County's 31 games. She picked up 1.7 and grabbed 3.7 rebounds per game in 2007-08. Ortiz also scored 40 three pointers, hitting 26% of the time. She averaged 3.1 assists per game. She finished last season with 116 rebounds, 95 assists, 55 steals, and 339 points.
"Joanna is a tremendous combo guard we have been after for a long time," stated Head Coach Chris Nelson. "For our team to land a player of Joanna's talent just shows where our program is headed. She completes a very talented roster and will have a heavy impact right away."
The Bethel College Lady Wildcats will begin the 2008-09 season at home on Saturday, November 1st at 2PM against Philander Smith College (Ark.) at Dishman Gymnasium in McKenzie, Tenn.
