MCKENZIE, Tenn. (October 2, 2008) - It has been a historic season for the Lady Wildcats volleyball team thus far establishing the best start is school history. Also of significance is that since volleyball was reinstated at Bethel in 1995, the Lady Wildcats volleyball team has never defeated the Union University Lady Bulldogs. Although that didn't change, the Lady ‘Cats gave the large and very enthusiastic crowd a thrilling match nearly ending the drought against Union as Bethel came up just short 3-2.
The Lady Wildcats took game one 25-22 but lost game two 14-25 and game three 17-25. Bethel made a comeback and was able to claim game four 25-22, before losing a hotly contested fifth and decisive game 14-16.

Leading the Lady Wildcats charge was Jessica Vieira with 47 attacks and 17 kills. She also added four assists, three service aces, 22 digs and three blocks. Deseray Washington had 11 kills on just 20 attacks and three block assists. Lisa Sellers spiked 10 kills on 36 attacks and had two block assists. Abbey Masters added nine kills on 23 attacks, had 31 digs and she led the team with 37 assists. Michele Cunha led the Lady ‘Cats with 33 digs and added seven kills on 46 attacks. Dre Townsend added seven kills.

The Lady Wildcats slip one spot to third in the TranSouth Conference with an overall record of 8-5 and 4-2 in the conference. The will be in conference action on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 1:00pm as they host Mid-Continent University.
