Bethel won for the fifth straight time 2-1 over Martin Methodist College. The winning streak has given the men’s soccer team a 5-1 conference record and a shot of capturing the regular season title. Bethel won the TranSouth conference tournament last season.

It seems to be a recurring theme in the Wildcats five wins as Armando Orozco has tallied at least one goal in each contest. Bethel got on the board first as Omar Apodaca scored on an assist from Erick Rosas in the 25th minute. It was a defensive struggle as Bethel only allowed the RedHawks four shots on goal and Bethel managed to only get seven in the game.

Bethel gave themselves a little cushion in the early moments of the second half as Orozco scored on a cross by Rosas in the 49th minute. It was Orozco’s team leading eight goal of the season. Martin tried to mount a comeback as Jaymes Beckett netted a goal in the 85th minute. But Bethel held of the RedHawks in the final five minutes to come away with the win.

The Wildcats improve to 8-4 and 5-1 in the conference. The Wildcats are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the conference. They will be in action at home on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 3:00pm in another conference game with Lyon College (Ark.).
