MCKENZIE, Tenn. (November 1, 2008) - The Bethel College women's basketball team dominated in an 87-61 win over Philander Smith College (Ark.). Four Lady ‘Cats scored in double figures and Lanicka Smith posted a double-double in her first game as a Lady Wildcat.
 

The Lady Wildcats got off to a cool start shooting from the floor connecting on 37% in the first half. But, the Lady Wildcats got a lift from Tristian Johnson who hit four field goals in the first 8:10 of the contest including three 3-pointers. Johnson would end up with 15 points in the game to lead Bethel. Then Teena Carter got in the flow and dropped eight points in a little over three minutes as Bethel opened a double digit lead.

After Smith struggled shooting in the first half, she found more success in the second. She would score eight and finished with a team leading 16 rebounds to go with 10 points. Jelena Budamir would finish with 10 points and five rebounds. Nina Djokovic, a first team All-TranSouth Team selection last season, scored eight and had 12 boards. New point guard Joanna Ortiz scored seven and had four assists. As Bethel built a 22-point lead, head coach Chris Nelson emptied his bench as everyone saw action.

Bethel will be at home on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 as they host Talladega College. The game's tip-off time has been moved back to 8:00pm because of the election.
 
Tristian Johnson led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points in the season opening win over Philander Smith College.
Tenna Carter had 12 points and was 5 of 7 from the floor.  She added eight boards.
