Pulaski, Tenn. (November 15, 2008) - The Lady Wildcats squared off for the second time this year with the Lady RedHawks of Martin Methodist College. The previous meeting was a physical battle in the regular season that Bethel lost 2-0. With the stakes higher and a conference championship on the line the Lady Wildcats found it tough to defeat the number three ranked team and defending national champion on their home turf losing 4-0.
Bethel was on the defensive early as MMC was awarded a penalty kick in the eighth minute. The RedHawks' Lisa Mann put the PK past Bethel keeper Jackie Gardner for an early 1-0 lead. Martin took 10 shots in the opening period putting four on goal. Bethel however, was held to no shots in the first half but did not allow another goal for a 1-0 halftime score.
It was much of the same in the second half as the Lady RedHawks shot nine times putting five on goal. Bethel did get three shots on goal, but could not find the net. It was nip and tuck for the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Then MMC officially put the game out of reach with the tandem of Shannon Walter and Nicole O'Donnell. Walter score in the 60th minute on an assist from Mann. Four minutes later, O'Donnell scored with an assist from Walter. Six minutes after that, Walter scored again on an assist from O'Donnell and a 4-0 advantage.
The Lady Wildcats finish the season 9-7-2 (4-1-1).
