When asked how the idea of the program got started two years ago Thompson responded, "We felt that the city of McKenzie, the community and the churches have been very good to our team. We think this is a way for us to give something back. We wish we could do even more."
Thompson commented about how the players talked about how the church doors are open for them to worship away from home. He also talked about how some of the players have host parents, which is very comforting to those from far off places.
By doing community work, the players feel they are giving something to the community and that leaves them with positive feelings. It is also a way for the players to do team bonding off the field away from a baseball setting.
"It definitely can be seen how the players grow individually and it is important to see them get a positive experience by doing something for others. Hopefully this will be a life-long lesson," Thompson said.
The Wildcats will begin their 2009 season with a double header at the University of North Alabama on February 3, 2009. They will play their first home game on February 7, 2008 against Clarke College.
