MCKENZIE, Tenn. (Dec. 22, 2008) - Bethel Men's Head Golf Coach Dr. Jerry Wilcoxson has added Josh Thomas to the 2009 roster. Thomas played golf at Waverly High School and will be transferring from Nashville State Community College. Thomas recently earned the 2008 Waverly Country Club Champion title and tied the course record at 58 (-13).
"Josh Thomas is a highly competitive and a very focused young man from a good family of athletes," said Dr. Wilcoxson. "He will be a tremendous addition to our team. His skill and love for the game will certainly strengthen us for the Spring 2009 season."
Thomas is a +0.1 USGA handicap. In high school he was the #1 seed at Waverly. In 2008, he placed 3rd in the Camden Invitational and tied for fifth at the Paris Country Club Fish Fry Tournament.
"Josh has been a valuable part of our golf operations team here at The Golf Club of Tennessee," said Douglas J. Oubre, Head Golf Professional, The Golf Club of Tennessee. "He is personable and had a great attitude. His outstanding work ethic and time management skills have allowed him to maintain a collegiate caliber golf game while working and taking classes. Speaking from experience, these are all the essential traits of any successful college golfer."
Thomas was also an accomplished tennis player in high school. In 2004 he was a member of the 10A-AA Waverly Team District Champions. In 2005 he was the 10A-AA Singles Champion. He was also All-District in 2004 and 2005.
"I feel that Josh is one of the very top players from the middle and West Tennessee areas and we are very fortunate to have him sign with us," added Dr. Wilcoxson.
Thomas is the son of Glenn and Laura.
Bethel competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the TranSouth Athletic Conference.
