MCKENZIE, Tenn. (04.22.09) - Bethel senior Blaire Johnson tossed a perfect game giving Bethel consecutive no-hitters as the Lady Wildcats defeated Fisk University 18-0 and 26-1. Leah Hensley threw a no-hitter in the second game of a double hitter with Union two days prior to Johnson's perfect game.
Bethel scored a run in the first inning on Amanda Renfroe's RBI single. Then, the Lady Wildcats exploded for 14 runs in the second inning. Kasey Winsett doubled to lead off, a wild pitch allowed her to get to third. Brooke Cary grounded out as Winsett scored. Whitney Tayler reached base on an error. Morgan Berry reached first on the fielder's choice, Taylor went to second. Brittini Burlison singled to load the bases. Lindesy Davis laced a RBI double, Taylor scored, Berry scored and Burlison stopped on third. With runner on first and third, Brittany Edmonds launched a 3-run home run. Renfroe followed that with her four homer of the year. Johnson doubled and advance to third on a wild pitch. Winsett reached on an error. Cary singled, scoring Johnson, Winsett stopped at second and moved to third on a passed ball; Cary moved to second. Taylor lined a single to scored Winsett. Berry singled, Cary scored; Burlison walked to lead the bases. L. Davis singled, Taylor scored. Edmonds walked with the bases loaded as Berry scored. Renfroe walked, Burlison scored; Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to center, L. Davis scored and Bethel led 15-0.
Bethel plated three more in the fourth. Colby Prosser reached on an error. With two outs, Amber Metzger walked; Cary walked to load the bases. Taylor reached on an error as Prosser and Metzger scored. Cary scored on Berry's misplayed pop up.
Johnson did the rest on the mound going five innings, striking out ten in the perfect outing. Johnson is 5-0 on the year.
The offense continued in game two as Bethel scored 15 runs in the first inning. Cary singled to lead off the inning, L. Davis singled; Edmonds followed with her fourth homer of the season, a 3 run blast to left. Renfroe singled, Winsett singled; Renfroe and Winsett did a double steal of third and second. Berry followed lining a RBI triple to right. Hensley walked, Metzger reached first on the fielder's choice, Berry scored, Hensley moved to third, Metzger to second. Prosser hit a two RBI single, scoring Hensley and Metzger. Jessie Davis reached first on an error; Edmonds reached on an error. Renfroe hit a RBI singled scoring J. Davis. Winsett singled, Edmonds scored; Berry reached on a dropped fly, Renfroe scored, Winsett scored. Hensley singled, Berry went to second. Then, Metzger smashed a 3 run home run, her first of the season and Bethel led 15-0.
Bethel scored three more in the second inning. Edmonds reached on an error. Winsett singled to left. Berry reached on an error to load the bases. Hensley walked, Edmonds scored; Metzger reached first on the fielder's choice, Winsett scored; Prosser singled to left, Berry scored and the Lady Wildcats led 18-1.
Bethel did the rest of the damage is the third, scoring eight runs. J. Davis led off with a double to center. L. Davis tripled, J. Davis. Taylor singled, L. Davis scored. Johnson reached first on the fielder's choice; Berry doubled to right, Taylor scored, Johnson scored. Metzger was hit by a pitch. Prosser singled to left, Berry scored. Burlison singled, Metzger scored. L. Davis doubled to center, Prosser scored, Burlison.
Metzger went five innings allowing one run on one hit, one walk and struck out eight. It was Metzger's eighth win of the season.
The Lady Wildcats are 28-12 (8-6) on the season. Bethel will host Cumberland University on Friday, April 23, 2009 for a double header starting at 1:00pm. It will be Senior Day as Blaire Johnson and Whitney Taylor will be recognized for their contributions to the softball program.
