MCKENZIE, Tenn. (04.29.09) - Courtney Powell from Jackson Christian School is joining the incoming 2009-10 class for the Lady Wildcats soccer program. Powell helped guide the Lady Eagles to their best season in school history in 2008 with a record of 17-4. JCS returned to the "elite eight" of the TSSAA championships and finished the year with a #7 ranking. She is the daughter of John and Janet Powell.
 

Powell's Lady Eagles team had several highlights last season. They defeated top ten ranked Donaldson Christian Academy and David Lipscomb. They also defeated AAA Bolton and Henry County; they came back from 2-0 to tie Goodpasture 3-3. At Freed-Hardeman University they beat Columbia Academy 4-2. The Lady Eagles defeated USJ in a PK Shootout to win the District Championship; then had to come back from being down 1-0 at halftime to defeat Dyersburg in the Regional semi-final. Once again, the Lady Eagles had to go to PK's against USJ in the Regional final, and with the win returned to the state playoffs again (4 out of the last 5 years).

Powell has been playing for the Lady Flyers club team in Jackson, Tenn.

Powell was nominated for Who's Who Among Students for three straight years.

Powell chose Bethel for its close proximity to her home in Jackson, Tenn. She likes Bethel because it is small but not too small and because her father is a Bethel graduate.
