PULASKI, Tenn. (05.02.09) - The TranSouth Athletic Conference released its 2009 Softball Scholar-Athletes and All-Conference Team members. There were 48 TranSouth softball player's honored with Scholar-Athlete distinction during the awards ceremony held at the TranSouth Softball Tournament in Pulaski, Tenn. The Bethel Lady Wildcats softball team garnered eight All-Conference Scholar-Athlete awards and seven Team awards.
Those earning All-Conference Scholar-Athlete awards were: Blaire Johnson, Whitney Taylor, Amber Metzger, Ashley Simmons, Brittany Edmonds, Leah Hensley, Jennifer Townson and Kasey Winsett.
Recipients must be a sophomore or above in academic standing; have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale).
Freshman, Brittini Burlison was named First Team All-Conference. Burlison was third in the conference with a .375 batting average, third in hits and fourth in stolen bases.
Bethel dominated the Second Team with six selections.
Leah Hensley earned honors as a pitcher. Hensley was tied for first in the conference with 19 wins, third with a 1.52 ERA and second in innings pitched.
Amber Metzger also earned honors for pitching. Metzger was seventh in the conference with a 2.31 ERA. She was third in innings pitched and seventh in wins with nine.
Infielders Blaire Johnson, Ashley Simmons and Brittany Edmonds; outfielder Lindsey Davis also made the Second Team.
Johnson was seventh in the conference with 31 RBIs. Simmons was first in the conference in defensive assists. Edmonds was 20
th with a .320 batting average and seventh with 32 RBIs. Davis was thirteenth with a .333 batting average and ninth with 11 doubles.
