MOBILE, Ala. (05.11.09) - Both the Bethel men's and women's tennis teams attended the NAIA National Tournament Banquet on the eve of the tournament. The event was hosted at Battleship Park in Mobile, Ala. and after the ceremony players were allowed to tour the USS Alabama.
 

For the #12 ranked men, this is the second time to play in the tournament. They will open on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 9:00am against Indiana Wesleyan. IWU is 15-5-1 on the year and qualified for the National Tournament by winning the Mid-Central Conference. The Wildcats of Wesleyan are not in the top 25 but did receive votes in the final regular season poll.

Bethel and IWU shared one common opponent this season. Bethel defeated Aquinas College (Mich.) 6-3 while in Florida on March 8, 2009. Indiana Wesleyan was blanked 9-0 by Aquinas on March 28, 2009.

The winner of the match will face #5 Concordia University (Calf.) on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 9:00am. Concordia received a first round bye and are 16-5 on the season.

Last year Bethel cruised in their first round match against Bethany College (Kan.) 9-0. They fell in the second round to California Baptist University in a strongly contested match 5-3.

For the women, this will be their first-ever appearance in the tournament. The Lady Wildcats are ranked #19 in the nation and are 9-0 on the season. Bethel qualified for the National Tournament by winning the American Midwest/TranSouth Conference Championship. Their first opponent will be #23 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) who is 13-4 on the season. The Match is set for May, 12, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Lady Tigers of Olivet have dropped their last two matches, losing back-to-back for the first time this season. The Lady Tigers lost to Carthage College (Wis.) and The University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, both NCAA D-III schools.

The winner will get #2 Fresno Pacific University (Calf.) on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 1:00pm.
