
The Lady Wildcats showed some impressive defense to begin the game. OCU's Amanda Howard singled to lead off the game. Mindy Crabaugh struck out and Howard was thrown out by Brittany Edmonds and just like that Bethel had two gone. Erin Slettvet walked; Amanda Renfroe bobbled a grounder that allowed Melissa Moore to reach first. Both runners moved up on a passed ball, but Renfroe redeemed herself throwing out Jen Davis to end the inning.
In the second, a leadoff walk was negated by Edmonds who threw out Laurin Hess trying to steal as Ashley Wilburn struck out. With two gone, Metzger struck out Kendall Hobens.
The Stars went in front in the third 1-0 on a single by Slettvet which scored Howard who had reached on an error. Slettvet ranked #21 in the nation in RBI.
Oklahoma City padded their lead in the fourth. Wilburn hit an infield single to the pitcher's mound. Bianca Bryant pinch ran for Wilburn. Hobens singled, advancing Bryant to second. Hensley replaced Metzger on the mound. Lily Lavelle singled to short as Ashley Simmons made a diving stop to load the bases. Howard reached on a walk, scoring Bryant. Crabaugh was hit by pitch, Hobens scored for a 3-0 Stars lead.
Simmons led off the Bethel fifth inning with the Lady Wildcats' first hit of the game and moved to second on a wild pitch. Wilburn then struck out the rest of the side stranding Simmons.
With one out in the sixth, Whitney Taylor singled to right center. But, a line out by Brittni Burlison and a fly out Lindsey Taylor left her at first.
Metzger went 3.2 innings allowing just four hits, three runs, two earned, two walks and three strike outs. Hensley went 3.1 innings allowing no runs on two hits, two walks and one strike out.
OCU's Wilburn went to 22-3 on the year. Metzger evened her record at 9-9.
Bethel is now 33-12 on the season. The Lady Wildcats will face off with the three time NAIA Champion Simon Fraser on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 2:30pm. The game against The Clan will be on Field number 3.
