McKenzie's Jacob Fussell commits to Bethel, joined by parents Calvin & Michelle; Bethel's Dino Kaklis & MHS's Wade Comer
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (05.19.09) - The Bethel football
program continues to ink outstanding local talent with the addition of McKenzie
fullback Jacob Fussell. Fussell played
for the West team in the Toyota East-West All-Star Classic this past
season. He is the son of Calvin and
Michelle Fussell.
"Its exciting to get a player of Jacob's caliber," said
Bethel Head Football Coach Dino Kaklis.
"The coaching staff has watched him over the years. He's a smart young man and a good football
player. He's very physical and I think
he can make the transition to the college game."
Coach Kaklis also noted that Fussell has been around the
program since seventh grade, serving as a ball boy.
Fussell, known for his hard hitting and tough play had 68
carries for 420 yards and four touchdowns as a fullback for McKenzie who made
it to the Semi-Finals last season.
Fussell also played linebacker for the Rebels and was also known for his
hard hits on the defensive side of the ball.
"I made the right choice," said Fussell. "The coaches here have always made it known
that they wanted me to be part of this program.
I think the major difference is going to be the speed of the game. I also realize that I am going to have to earn
my spot and I hope that I can do that right away."
"Bethel is getting a lot more than just a football player,"
said McKenzie Head Coach Wade Comer. "He
has a motor that won't quit. He is that
‘road grinder' kind of player that isn't afraid of anything. We run a 2-back system, so he should be able
to fit in with Bethel's system right away."
While
at Bethel, Fussell plans on majoring in Pre-Pharmacy.
