Iesha Kizer Drives in Six Runs in Twin Bill

JACKSON, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcats beat the Lane Lady Dragons twice Thursday at Muse Park in Jackson. The Lady Cats won game one 9-8 in eight innings and then beat the home team 8-0 in five innings in game two.

Game one saw Bethel score five runs in the second inning to grab a 5-0 lead. Iesha Kizer had a two run triple to give Bethel a 2-0 lead. RBI's by Dominque Todd, Ciara Aragon and Marrisa Davis made it 5-0. Lane scored three runs in the third and two in the fourth to tie the game.

Both teams battled into the seventh knotted at five. Lane had runners at second and third with no one out but Bethel's Casey Wade was out to strike out the next two hitters and got the final out on a ground out to send the game to extra innings.

Kizer hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth to give the Lady Wildcats a 9-5 lead. Lane scored three runs and had the tying run in scoring position before Wade again worked out of the jam. Wade was credited with the win.

Bethel exploded for eight runs in the top of the fourth in game two. Alex Turner, Caylee Crews, Sydney Huff, Dallas Weatherly, Bailey Moore and Mady Kate Gantt drove in runs for the Lady Cats. Emmi Thurmond had the big hit in the frame with a two run double. Moore picked up the win for Bethel.

Bethel improved 22-22 while Lane fell to 18-15. The Lady Wildcats swept the season series 4-0.

Bethel Coach Larry Geraldi commented on the day. "We are very glad to get back in the win column today. This is one of Lane's best teams. In game one Casey pitched out of a big jam and that set up Iesha Kizer's grand slam bomb which proved to be the difference. In game two we hit the ball better throughout the entire lineup and Bailey Moore pitched great." He added, "Weather permitting wen have two conference doubleheaders at home this weekend to close out the regular season."

Bethel will host Blue Mountain Friday at 2 p.m. They host Martin Methodist Saturday at 1 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will begin at noon Saturday.

With rain in the forecast Bethel has set aside Monday and or Tuesday for make-up games not played over the weekend.
