McKenzie, TN (October 29, 2007) – The Bethel College softball team recently gave of their time and energy to contribute to “Operation Christmas Child” a program of “Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.”
“Operation Christmas Child” is a program that brings shoe boxes filled with gifts for children ages 2 through 14 years. These shoe boxes are distributed internationally to war torn areas, areas stricken by natural disasters, and children who “live in difficult circumstances and are in desperate need of hope.” Franklin Graham, son of the world renowned Billy Graham, is the president of “Samaritan’s Purse.”
The Lady Wildcats packed 10 boxes with soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, brushes, hair ribbons, barrettes, and ponytail holders. The team also packed gum, hard candy, toys, notebooks, crayons, coloring books, and games. Gloves, hats, and shirts were placed in the children’s boxes as well. This experience had a positive affect on the Lady Wildcats as they were given insight as to how blessed they are to have so much.
“The Operation Christmas Child program brought our team closer together by working together for the good of the needy children of the world and to make the world a little brighter for the children,” stated Head Coach Larry Geraldi. He added, “It made our players appreciate and feel blessed for the things we take for granted. Hopefully this project will keep the joy of giving in each of our hearts throughout our lifetime.”
