The Bethel College Lady Wildcats were honored with seven first and second team selections and thirteen were recognized for their achievement in the classroom.

The Lady Wildcats had four selections of this year’s TranSouth First Team. Forward, Leah O’Grady, a senior from Mt. Pearl, New Foundland; Midfielder, Marika Fukuta, a junior from Tokyo, Japan; Defender Philisha Lewis, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica; and Goalkeeper Ugo Opara, a senior from San Antonio, Texas.

Second team selections were, Forward, Carla Chambers, a junior from St. Catherine, Jamaica; Defenders Kimmarley Chin, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica and Tamami Ito, a junior from Osaka, Japan.

Bethel was also well represented for their achievements in the classroom. Earning a selection on the 2007-2008 TranSouth Scholar-Athlete Team were Lindsey Butler, a senior from Jackson, Tenn.; Chastity Fortenberry, a senior from Crockett County, Tenn.; Kathryn Vasconcellos, a senior from Miami, Fla.; Deanna Flores, a junior from Abilene, Texas; Sarah Halsall, a junior from Lanshire, England; Tamami Ito, a junior from Osaka, Japan; Florence Iweta, a junior from Nigeria; Philisha Lewis, a junior from Jamaica; Kendall Nuffer, a junior from Dallas, Texas; Chelsea Sheahan, a junior from Shawnee, Kan.; Kimmarley Chin, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica; Candace Salcido, a sophomore from Portland, Tenn.; and Tashana Taylor, a sophomore from Jamaica.

Bethel is currently ranked #20 in the nation, with the final season poll due out on October 31, 2007. The Lady Wildcats have compiled an impressive 14-4 overall record this season. They will be hosting Union University with the winning traveling to Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) on Monday to play in the Region XI Tournament.
