MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to No. 18 John Brown University Saturday in their 2017 home opener. After two tight wins on the road the Lady Wildcats fed on that energy and confidence to upset the Golden Eagles 2-1 at Wildcat Stadium. Bethel improved to 3-0 on the season while JBU fell to 1-1 on the year.  The 3-0 start is the best for a Lady Wildcat squad since 2007.

Bethel's Maggie Swift (JR/Paducah, KY) scored at the 39:05 mark of the first period. The junior from Paducah scored on a rebound to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  They sustained that margin to lead at the end of the first period 1-0.

Bethel's Marina Hamer (SO/Bartlett, TN) scored on a free kick from 22-yards out at the 35:03 mark of the second period to give Bethel a 2-0 lead.

JBU's Jastin Redman knocked in a 28-yarder with 26 minutes remaining to cut Bethel's lead to 2-1.

The Lady Wildcats were able to stave off a constant Golden Eagle attack in the last 25 minutes to pull off the upset.

John Brown outshot Bethel 23-3 in the contest. Danielle Krzyzaniak (SR/Bolton, Ontario, Canada) recorded ten saves for the Lady Cats.

Coach Misty Aird commented, "I am super proud of my team and their commitment to each other and to our staff. This is a special group of girls. We are looking to what the rest of the season brings."
