MCKENZIE, Tenn. (7.28.09) - Bethel's new bowling teams has its new coach in place as Clay Boyd has been named to the post. Boyd bowled collegiately at Pikeville College in Kentucky but graduated in 2007 from Murray State University. Boyd, a native of Paris, Tenn.,has been bowling for the last 20 years.
Boyd said that Bethel would be competing in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and the men's and women's teams will compete from the fall semester into the spring. Bethel will join Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) as the only TranSouth Conference members to offer the sport. Boyd indicated that many schools familiar to Bethel, mainly in the Mid-South Conference, also compete in bowling, i.e. Campbellsville University (Ky.), Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) and Union College (Ky.).
The teams will practice in Paris, Tenn. two to three times a week.
Boyd said he would be recruiting from high school teams and youth bowling leagues. He sees the team adding 40 bowlers, 20 men and 20 women. Emphasis will be placed on high standards, character, competitiveness, dedication and commitment.
Boyd sees his role as head coach to work on the bowler's consistency and on techniques.
